Quick answer

A random pair generator matches people into twos at random. Paste your list, turn on Elimination, and spin twice for each pair — the wheel removes each person as they are drawn, so nobody is paired twice and nobody is left choosing. Free, no sign-up.

What is a random pair generator?

A random pair generator takes a list of people and matches them two at a time without anyone deciding who goes with whom. The value is social rather than mathematical: pairs that form by themselves tend to form the same way every time, and a visible random draw is the easiest way to break that without singling anyone out.

What is on the Random Pair Generator by default?

The random pair generator loads with these 12 options, so you can spin it straight away without setting anything up. Every one can be edited, removed, or replaced with your own list — the wheel redraws as you type, and nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere.

When should you use a random pair generator?

  • Classroom partner work. Stops the same friendship pairs forming every lesson, and stops anyone being picked last.
  • Peer review. Random pairing avoids people reviewing the person they sit next to, which is usually the point of peer review.
  • Secret Santa. Draw names in pairs to decide who buys for whom, with each name removed as it comes up.
  • Sparring and practice partners. Rotate pairs across a session so nobody drills with the same person all evening.
  • Interview and conversation practice. Language classes, onboarding, mentoring programmes — anywhere the mix matters more than the match.
  • Doubles teams. Tennis, badminton, table tennis. Spin the pairs, then spin the fixtures.

How to use the random pair generator

  1. Open the wheel. It loads with 12 options ready to go.
  2. Edit the list if you want. Clear it and paste your own, one per line.
  3. Spin. Every option has an identical chance, and each spin is independent of the last.
  4. Share it if you need it again. Press Share to copy a link that reopens this exact wheel, options and all.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make pairs rather than pick one name?

Turn on Elimination, then spin twice. The first two names drawn are your first pair, and both are removed from the wheel, so the next two spins give you the second pair, and so on until the list is empty.

What happens with an odd number of people?

One person is left at the end. The usual solutions are to make that person a three with the last pair, or to pair them with you.

Can I stop two specific people being paired?

Not automatically — the draw is genuinely random. Pair those two by hand first and run the wheel on everyone else.

Can I use it for teams rather than pairs?

For groups larger than two, the team generator splits a whole roster in one pass rather than two names at a time.

Can I share a wheel with someone else?

Yes. Press Share and the link is copied to your clipboard. Anyone who opens it gets the wheel with your exact options already loaded. The options travel in the link itself — nothing is saved to an account, because there are no accounts.

Do I need an account to save a wheel?

No, and there is no account to make. A wheel is saved by keeping its share link — bookmark it or send it to whoever needs it.
