Why SpinForFun is free
No ads, no account, no paid tier. Here is the honest reason, and what that does and does not buy you.
SpinForFun is free because it costs almost nothing to run. It is a set of static files with no server, no database, and no per-user cost — one more person using it does not make it more expensive.
The actual economics
Every wheel runs entirely inside your browser. There is no backend computing your results, no database storing your options, and no account system to maintain. What is left is a domain name and ordinary shared hosting — a fixed cost measured in tens of dollars a year, not something that scales with traffic.
Most free tools are not free in this sense. They are funded by advertising or by collecting and selling behavioural data, which means the running costs are real and someone else is covering them. Here the costs are genuinely small, so there is nothing to recoup.
Why there are no ads
Two reasons, and the second matters more than the first. Ads would make the tool worse — a wheel is something you use for fifteen seconds, and an interstitial or a banner ruins that. But more importantly, ad networks require tracking scripts. Running them would make the privacy page untrue, and that promise is worth more than the revenue.
Why there is no account
Because there is nothing to store. Your options live in the page while you use it, and when you share a wheel they travel inside the link rather than sitting on a server. Adding accounts would mean adding a database, which would mean holding your data, which would mean the privacy position changes. The current design avoids all of that by having nowhere to put anything.
What free does not buy you
Worth being straight about. This is built and maintained by one person, which means there is no service-level agreement, no support desk, and no guarantee of uptime. If something breaks it gets fixed when I see it. If you are running something where a tool being unavailable would be a real problem, have a fallback.
If this ever changes
If costs or circumstances change, any new paid option would sit alongside the free tool rather than replacing it — the wheels that are free today stay free, and nothing that currently works will be moved behind a payment. Any change would be announced on this page before it ships rather than appearing quietly.
If you want to support it
There is nothing to buy. The genuinely useful things are sharing a wheel link with someone who would use it, linking to the site if you write about classroom or giveaway tools, and emailing hello@spinforfun.app when a wheel you need does not exist yet. Most of the wheels on this site came from someone asking.
